Final Count

I know it is one hour before time, but the scores are pretty uneven right now, and since me and my roommate are going to have a beer pretty soon I found it better to finish this off now than having to wait untill tomorrow (fat boy).

Here are the final results of the Official Sigg3 dot net female of the year 2003 competition:

1. Angelina Jolie: 33%
2. Milla Jovovich: 29%
3. Katie Holmes: 25%
4. Jenna Jameson: 4%
5. Alizee Jacotey: 2%
6. t.A.T.u: 1%
7. Alyssa Milano: 0%
    Mili Avital: 0%
    Christina Ricci: 0%
    Anck Su Namun: 0%
    Anna Paquin: 0%
    Princess Leia: 0%

Final number of votes: 502

The winner, beautiful Angelina Jolie, became the winner with the honorable amount of 165,7 votes while on 2nd sexy Milla Jovovich 145,6 votes had been cast. The charming Katie Holmes who had the lead for a while back and also stole the pollposition from Jenna Jameson got a total of 125,5 votes. Congratulations to all 12, in our eyes you're all winners (with perhaps a few exceptions on my behalf:) and let's not forget miss Angelina Jolie who pulled it through and was strong from the very beginning of the election.

It is my honor to officially state that the title of ms. Sigg3 dot net of the year 2003 goes to Angelina Jolie. Congrats!

Also thanks to all of the women's lawyers for not throwing a lawsuit in my face or anything. What will happen next? I'll tell you all about it tomorrow! Good night and once again: Congratulations, Angie, and welcome to Sigg3 dot net! (Oh, and thanks to all of my, Pauly's and Mirza's (among other's) readers for participating. This election would've been pretty boring without you!) Now, what do you think about the contest?

Thoughts on existentialism

I just read in a wiki-article about one of the 2 parts that this guy ment made up existentialism: Hell is other people and Pain is conciousness.

Here's an excerpt I think we all should have a look at:
This paradox, that the only thing that can save you from the pain of conciousness is another being, but that being will rebel at being used solely in that way, is what the existentialists mean when they say 'Hell is other people.' I can not argue against this statement.. Shit.

Here's the reverted article Wikipedia: Existentialism and here is the old one: Wikipedia: Existentialism - Talk. Worth a look.

KAS: Kill all Salsa

Music is obligatory in my life. I must have it. Good music, that is. In that sense, I am here to announce that I am starting an organization called KAS: Kill All Salsa, since that intellectually poor excuse for rythm is driving me mad. At all times. God, I really hate Salsa.

Anyway, what are friends for? They are for lending me their stereo and their CDs so I can have a good time! Like my neighbours on the 3rd floor, who's got Nirvana's Nevermind and The muddy banks of something something (I never remember the name, but it's an incredible livealbum). In addition, MTV Latino America comes out of the closet every once in a while with Radiohead and R.E.M and the likes.. Great. Yesturday I got my hands on themes from 8 Mile with four or five tunes my mr. hip-hop himself - Eminem, and I really blasted that stereo all night. But now, walking across the street to check my e-mail and have a cup of crappy coffe I was attacked by the annoying odour of Salsa yet again. God how I hate salsa.

Not that Buena Vista Socialclub accompanied by Afrocuban allstars aren't kicking it, because they really do, but they are the only one around here that does. I mean, how many times can you stand hearing about how much that person love that other person?

I've been impressed by Mexican music, however. There are some really great shit going on in the underground over there, and you should honestly have a look at Molotov and Control Machete. It's in Spanish, so it limits the level of comprehension, but who cares? It's great music and you do get the picture of what they're trying to say (i.e. "So, you're trying to hit us, but now we'll hit you back." from Molotov's Hit me back, which is quite funny).

Please use the comment feature, or e-mail me, YOUR thoughts on the crap we know as Salsa - the dance too if you want to - so we can get started cleaning the world of this unnecessary, annoying rubbish, and in one voice clearly state that what we want to do to improve the world is to KILL ALL SALSA. Thanks.

(Note: The name of the Nirvana album is From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah which was released in 1995.)

400 votes passed!

But is it possible to reach 500 by tomorrow? Who knows...?

Here's a little count on votes (at 2:28 p.m Cuban time), just a little brainwork.
Number of votes: 430 (we need at least 70 more!!)

1. Milla Jovovich: 32% (137,6 votes)
2. Angelina Jolie: 28% (120,4 votes)
3. Katie Holmes: 26% (111,8 votes)
4. Jenna Jameson: 5% (21,5 votes)
5. Alizee Jacotey: 2% (8,6 votes)
6. t.A.T.u: 1% (4,3 votes)
7. Anna Paquin: 0%
   Princess Leia: 0%
   Mili Avital: 0%
   Christina Ricci: 0%
   Anck Su Namun: 0%
   Alyssa Milano: 0%

Now, when you can see the "Final count" header appearing, then the voting is over. No arguing will be accepted.

Now, we need your vote!

Nota Bene

Oh, and guess who got an A on the oralexam in Spanish.. :D
Beer yesturday? Yes.
Beer tonight? Yes.
Beer tomorrow? Yes.
Want a beer? Yes.
Beer it is:)

Pissing against the wind

Do you know what I really hate? Having to pay to take a piss.
I mean. It´s like the executioner is standing there with his gun to
your forehead and asks you to pay for the bullet. Like.
Pissing is an act of Nature, something we all must do, so asking for
money in order to give you the right to do it is contradictory.
It´s like suing someone for being someone.
It´s just like that and it really pisses me off! Now, if you´ll excuse me...

U.S Declares war on Norway and vice versa!

Two of our frontmen, since I am supposed to be somewhat neutral in this matter, mr. Mirza (djMIB) and mr. Pauly (Tenzin McGrupp) from Norway and the U.S of A (respectively) have declared war on each other´s choice of Female of the year 2003.

On Mirza´s frontpage you can now read the following message (among others) directed towards all Norwegians about his Angelina Jolie campaign (interpreted by yours truly):
The battle has come down to America and Europe (specifically Norway). Allright! This is why we must make Norway and Europe proud of us. Engage all you know, don´t let the Americans win this battle! First and foremost, vote for Angelina Jolie! If Milla wins then Norway has lost, but it´s not as bad as if Katie Holmes should win. In addition to be incredible beautiful, Jolie does her part of making the world a better place (she´s a Goodwill Ambassador in the UN)!
While on the other side of the battle, the Americans are going for Katie Holmes using slogans such as: "The good... Ms. Katie Holmes, the lovely, the talented, the girl next door we all love." Here´s an excerpt on mr. Pauly´s attack on the Norwegian and European voters: It boils down to this: the US (and my one Canadian reader) versus Norway and the rest of the Eurotrash, non-showering, chainsmoking, butt-cheese... I don't know about you, but I think this is a classic battle of good and evil. While also mentioning something about the Evil Norwegian Goth-like Junta. Interesting.

Somehow the picture is painted like this: Americans vote for Holmes, Norwegians vote for Jolie, while Europeans in general vote for Jovovich.

Here´s the current score among the top three ladies (at 10:55 Cuban time):
1. Milla Jovovich: 30%
2. Angelina Jolie: 29%
3. Katie Holmes: 26%

I refuse to comment this situation in order to stay neutral, allthough Mirza has claimed me impartial by the excerpts of Pauly´s campaign on my site. A delicate matter indeed! But let men (and women) settle this in men´s (and women´s) fashion: go ahead and vote!

A little look on the ladies

If my calculations aren`t that all messed up, then Sunday is the last day of voting. We`re up at approximately 315 votes but who gets to win is far from decided. Here are the top three girls:

1. Milla Jovovich: 29%
2. Katie Holmes: 27%
3. Angelina Jolie: 26%

Don`t forget to vote!

Just a short note...

I got an A on my examen philosophicum midterm exam, on subjects concerning Socrates. Too bad I can`t party.. We`ve got our oral examn on Thursday.. Or I do, anyway.. See ya!

Oh, and I forgot to mention, when talking about the trip we did and all: I was forced to deliver a 2hr long speach on why I (easily) could compare Adolf Hitler to Mother Theresa, while consuming great amounts of beer.

Three days of relaxation

Three days ago, me and my group finished the ex.fac hand-in on how to analyze the logic in sentences, i.e "If p, then q. p. q." Really interesting, huh? That´s what I thought too.

Anyway, there are only 10-12 students left on campus, since everyone has moved to the city so we - the leftovers - thought we were going to do something together, having finished our tasks and all. Well, we should be reading on our Spanish, since the oral exams are in the following week starting tomorrow, but we should know enough to get by. For most of us A´s are not the goal, but getting by is:) I´m glad to tell you that my exam on Thomas S. Kuhn and his paradigms went very well, I am not that excited since I could have done better, but I got an A at least. Topnotch and everything.

So, we were going to do something. What is it to do in La Villa except drinking? Very little. So seven of us decided to go somewhere else for a day or two, get to see some scenery not made of concrete, and Soroa turned out to be a great destination, with jungles, mountains and waterfalls and all. We hired a bus having booked in at Hotel Costazul and went. We got there around ten in the morning, but everyone still hung over or even drunk from the night before was so tired, so the bed seemed like an ultimate option. I got a room all by myself and it was great just sleeping there for a while, until the gentlemen by the pool found out that their stereo could be cranked even louder, and waking up to a Salsa nightmare I decided to save some sleep for the night. Into the shower, I discovered a little note above the sink that said: "Please beware that the water can get over 50 degrees celsius." FINALLY! A decent shower! Not that I´m not content by the one me and Ola (the two other boys have left us, so it´s only me and him left in the penthouse:) has, but it never gets warm enough. I like hot showers. There´s nothing that can be compared to being boiled in the shower for one and a half hour. Great!

We met again at 2 p.m and got us some plain food to get rid of the worst of our hunger. Stomach 1/3 full, we found out that we couldn´t stay on the hotel until Sunday, so we were only granted one day at this paradise. Damn. We had a bit of a discussion on what to do, and pointing out the fact that none of us were prepared (or had the money) for a traveller´s adventure, we decided that one day would have to be it.

We went down to a restaurant, just besides a great park of orchids from all over the world, and had lunch - again - before the inevitable suggestion of exploring the waterfall nearby came up. Great idea, I´ve got my camera with me, and so had everyone else. All full, after a three course meal accompanied by a desert that was undescribably(?) distasteful and horrible and all that, we went into the jungle. It was beautiful. I´ve never seen anything like it, except in movies, but this was real. The waterfall, only about 60ft (or 20m) ended in a small pool called ´the lover´s pool´ and I can understand why. The atmosphere wasn´t just romantic, it was erotic, and as the area was about to close, a few couples had already found their way down there. Having neglected the bathingshorts when I was packing, I ran around taking pictures for a couple of hours while the other guys (and girls) were bathing in the waterfall. I shot about 70 pictures before the battery went:)

The following day we wanted to check out this mountainpeak, 400 metres above the ocean, which according to several touristguides should provide for quite an impressive view of the surrounding area - and even the coast. Some of us went by foot, me included, while others paid three dollars for a horse each. It was pretty steep at times, and not having excersized particulary much the last two years, I had quite a struggle getting up there. I was not the only one though. Finally at the top we were struck by an incredible view, beautiful scenery and large groups of hawks (or some other big, black birds) circling around us. Now, I am not afraid of heights. I only have this scaring thought of pushing someone else out of heights. I know, it sounds pretty psycho, but that´s the way it is. So I stayed a looong way from the edge while the others were taking photos and admiring the view. Getting down again was alot easier, at least for us who´d been walking, ´cause two of the three horses - and Ola´s horse in particular - were really lazy and stopped every three metres for food. It was hilarous.

Now, even though I didn´t get any reading done, it was a great vacation from La Villa and noisy Habana. I am not made for greater cities, at least not for long periods of time, and especially when I cannot see the ocean. That really freaks me out. Well, I suppose I´ve covered most of it now. Except for some beer, good discussions and cocky neighbours.. not to neglect the smoking of fine cigars; Montecristo no. 4. I could get really used to that:)

Now I´ll take a walk down to the ocean I guess, just to have a look at what´s going on in the horizont, and then maybe have a pizza or something, and go to sleep. Tomorrow it´s another seminar-thing, so it´s obligatory to come.. at nine o´clock!... See ya!

An update on the sweet femmes:)

I just need to inform you that if I am held back on the 1st of December for some reason, which could be anything, I am in Cuba for Christ´s sakes - the period of the competition will be extended until I get to a computer. This is NOT to allow cheating, if such a thing is possible, but a mere consequence of living in the realworld.. It sucks, I know, and I apologize..

Here´s the current position of the top four girls:
1. Katie Holmes: 28%
2. Angelina Jolie: 26%
3. Milla Jovovich: 26%
4. Jenna Jameson: 8%

Number of votes:253

Btw, you should check out what Pauly writes about the competition at his daily Tao. He and his minions are joining in to front Katie Holmes, and on the Norwegian side we´ve got MIB trying to wind up an opposition for Angelina Jolie! Stay tuned for the end!
Here´s the latest update about the contest by Pauly: Just click this link and modern technology will take you there!

I got mugged! ....Twice!

Heh. I was spending all yesturday evening in the city with a very good friend, and we had a blast at the best place in Habana: The Jazzcafe close to Malecon. It wasn´t that fun, however, when we were almost picked up by the police (which in Cuba can be very rude:) because of a fuck-up with our bill. Good live-music, though!

After we´d been walking around town for a while, we found it best to part - she to her appartement and me to La Villa. I stopped by Habana Libre, a great hotel in the middle of the city, to take a piss. I didn´t have any money, except 3 dollars worth of pesos and 5 dollars which were intended for the cab home, so I decided to give the WC-cleaner guy a couple of cigarettes. Dang! They weren´t there. Oh, well. Pickpockets are o.k. as long as they only steal cigarettes...

Then, having waiting for a cab to come for almost an hour - they are pretty delayed by the re-routing and all the people because of the great Carneval, which happened to end while we strolled along the Malecon - these two guys told me of a friend of theirs who had a Nissan and who´d gladly take me home for a couple of dollars. Drunk and pretty stupid I agreed and followed them around the corner. That´s when I felt a strong arm around my neck, and this younger guy probably in his late teens, went through my pockets. "Where is the dollars? Where is the creditcard?" he asked me, because it wasn´t in my wallet. I tried to smile, while being choked, because I was pretty broke and they´d picked the last person on earth to fuck with. Now, these guys seemed harmless, and I still think they were. They only wanted my money - which I didn´t have - and they let me go after I´d promised not to shout for the police or anything. I was pretty amused, however, to find out that they hadn´t found my 5 dollar note, and that I actually could get home again:)

Luckily to me, these robbers were young and pretty untalented. All they got from me was cuban pesos worth about 3 dollars. They didn´t even get my pouch of tobacco, since I grabbed it back before I ran away:) Heh.
The thing is, however, that if these guys had intended to hurt me - hurt me real bad - they could´ve. Without a problem. In the middle of the city. Scares the shit out of me when I think about it now. Oh, well. Another experience that money can´t buy - even here:)

130 votes passed!

I though I was going to do an update today, hoping that the count of votes would be around houndred, but damn was I wrong! Thanks to Pauly people are participating as madmen, and the turnout seems to be bigger than any democratical election in the United States:)

Well, here are the ladies lined up after how many votes they´ve got:

Angelina Jolie: 27%
Katie Holmes: 25%
Milla Jovovich: 19%

Jenna Jameson: 12%
Alizee Jacotey: 6%
Anna Paquin: 3%
Alyssa Milano: 2%
t.A.T.u: 1%
Christina Ricci: 0%
Anck Su Namun: 0%
Princess Leia: 0%
Mili Avital: 0%

The leader is still Angelina Jolie, by 2 points, but she should be watching out for misses Holmes and Jovovich. Our feminist, Jenna Jameson, seems to be loosing ground, but it´s still time left for her to rise up again, so hang on! This will get interesting!

And: don´t forget to vote!

Midterm exam, temporary hell...

How are you?
I´ve been reading for the last three days, reading very hard, because today was the midterm exam that counts 40% on the grades alltogether. The subjects: Philosophy and Science of Philosophy. My level: Intermediate. I had to re-read the whole Aristotle-based world (his cosmology) and more, and I just felt like crying when Thomas Aquinas (that bastard) came and changed the whole theory to a theological theory.

Hence:
Thomas Aquinas is teh sux!!1!11!!

BUT, it has been interesting gathering all the loose threads floating around in the metaphysics of my brain, especially when I finally got the whole picture - or something similar at least.

Scientific philosophy or philosophy of science, is first and foremost critics directed towards human comprehension, the senses, the intellect, the way we take things for granted etc. etc. I find this quite intersting, as a matter of fact. I mean, I have my (pretty strong and "bombastic" ideas) and it´s intersting to see how this works together with some of what I´m learning now. Especially Thomas S. Kuhn (1922-1996) and Feyerabend is worth a look. And, as a principle, you should always hunt out the opposite perspective, in casu presented by mr. Karl Popper (1902-1994). Smart bastards all of them.

Sociologists/scientists/critics/philosophers of the day: Thomas S. Kuhn and Feyerabend. The last one especially by the phrase: "anything goes" and the comparison between science and voodoo. Preach!

Now? Now I´ll withdraw to my room and sleep, watch some film on HBO (en español) or get drunk. It´s at least a couple of week till the next great test (which is spanish verbs aso.).

Female statistics: 10th day

It´s been ten days since the competition begun, and approximately 60 votes has been cast. It is of outmost importance that you let everyone know about this in order to reach a democratically justifiable winner:)

Anyway, here´s the score:

Christina Ricci: 1%
Anck Su Namun: 1%
t.A.T.u: 3%
Anna Paquin: 6%
Princess Leia: 1%
Katie Holmes: 8%
Angelina Jolie: 27%
Jenna Jameson: 14%
Alyssa Milano: 3%
Mili Avital: 0%
Alizee Jacotey: 13%
Milla Jovovich: 18%

Angelina Jolie is still on the front row, but Jovovich is closing in on her and has actually passed Jacotey AND Jameson. This could get interesting.

10th day winner: Angelina Jolie (27%)
10th day loser: Mili Avital (0%)

Saturday, November 8th 2003

I owe you one...

I feel like I owe ya´ll an update - since it HAVE been things going on around here (as in East of Havanah, Cuba).

In two days - 2 days - I´ve got my midterm exam in ex.phil (history of philosophy) and ex.fac (science of philosophy). Today - 2day - a great carneval begun in the capital, but because of my lagging behind with the reading and all, I get no part of the fun. Speaking of fun, three or five of the co-students that participate in these courses (with me) actually met Fidel Castro the other day at a John Lennon memorialconcert. And where was I? You guessed it; at home getting drunk. Well, you can´t have it all...

Since the students over here have been complaining alot about the whole setup of where we´re staying, the way we´re taught Spanish etc. the leader of Gateway College, mr. Petter Sørum, took the first plane to Cuba to settle down the riots. As a consequence, the students which weren´t satisfied with where and how we are living, are allowed to move from campus and into the city (or wherever). This means that the number of students around have been halved, and right now it´s really quiet around here. It´s actually quite good, considering the fact that I´ve got houndreds of pages to read till Monday´s big test, but still.. I do like having some life around me.

Wether I will move or not is still not a question, as I try to focus at the exams.

Pauly, from The Tao of Pauly, just reported that Señor has become a father to a little fellow named Jodd (or something similar). Congrats!

In addition, my Cuban visum (or visa) runs out the 20th of December, giving me 9 days of exploring the island if I want to. I haven´t decided yet, but I think I´d be able to pull it through from an economical point of view. In addition to this addition, a couple of friends of mine are probably going to Jamaica after the final exams, and I´m wondering wether this could be interesting too. After all, when I´ve first flew the couple thousands of miles across the deep, blue sea, I should exploit my travellingchances...

I´m going partially insane at the moment, because the roommate with the stereo managed to spill beer inside the CD-reader thingie, so the only music we have is brought to us by MTV Latino America which isn´t necessarily a good thing. Well, I think it´s time to return to the reading and all, even though what I really like is to jump into the shower (which actually can be very fun, because it gives you electric shocks from time to time:), have a beer and go straight to Havana to see the carneval. If my luck´s as good as usual, I´ll probably miss Castro there too... Damn...

Oh, and I almost forgot: don´t forget to vote on your favourite female!
